Journalist Award
Give "Presidential Journalist" awards to journalist and editors of publications that fight spell-checkers and use an American-English dictionary. This enables readers to learn correct usage of spelling and promotes reading publications as a learning tool.
Spell-checkers have proven to be poor spelling checks written by computer programmers without regard to known standards created by our language dictionaries.
Examples of common problems are:Web pages written by technical programmers have turned into a nightmare, (e.g. with missing capitalization), then those poor English web pages awarded by the business success of Y2K, morphed into... what is now the "in" thing to do in some business journals, in order to make money on the web. (Which is incorrect, of course. Are Americans that poorly educated that they lack any reasoning skills? Programmers do have priorities, mainly to get the program to work according to specifications or need. The rush for Y2K changeover obviously causing what happened. Now, they have no excuse for their poor work and some students are surely confused.)
